Salt Lake City Mission is a service provider focused daily on helping the homeless, feeding the hungry, and assisting families who are having a difficult time financially right here in Utah. We provide essential services that include ongoing daily outreaches and programs that provide meals for the homeless, food boxes to families trying to make ends meet, shuttle and day center program that provides the homeless a place of refuge and safety, and a residential life recovery program for men wanting to change the direction of their life. We also provide other vital services and essentials as needed.

Pastor Shawn Clay, Executive Director
Many years ago, Pastor Shawn was living a life of adversity by his own making brought on by an addictive mismanaged lifestyle. Shawn found refuge in Salt Lake City Mission as a new opportunity of life change was offered to him.
He stayed on the path of this new life and opened his heart to allow God to take control. Shawn finished the men’s recovery program, worked in the field of service to others, and went on to become ordained by his church to serve God and the Calling he had on his life to help others,
As one who once lived a life of poverty, addiction, homelessness, hunger and pain – Shawn found himself right back at Salt Lake City Mission, but this time as Head Chaplain. After spending many years at the Mission which also saw him as Programs Director, Pastor Shawn was given the position of Executive Director after the departure of a co-worker that left the position opened.
After several years of serving as the Director of the Mission, Pastor Shawn still finds himself purposely committed and passioned to help others in circumstances of living a hard life.

Why We Are Called To Fight Poverty
They are hungry and hurting men, women and children. Contrary to popular belief, the fastest growing population of poverty and homelessness is women with children under the age of nine – they are your neighbors. They are ordinary people and not the labels like: homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics, mentally ill, ex-cons, felons, etc. These are the labels that have been placed on them to remove them from humanity. So that we can justify not doing much or anything to help them.
But in reality, they are someone’s son or daughter that are eminently in need and in crisis! And they are YOUR test right now.

Jesus said: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation.
And here’s why: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.”
Matthew 25:34-40 (Message Bible).

“For more than 35 years of ministry here in Salt Lake, I have found that people experiencing homelessness are from all walks of life. They are from every fabric and every class of society.
They are doctors, lawyers, dentists, CEOs, millionaires, professors, educators, teachers, construction workers, diesel mechanics, computer technicians, business owners, laborers, migrant workers, custodians, the mentally ill, the addicted, veterans with PTSD, state-raised children, the abused … “.
Pastor Wayne Wilson, CEO & Founder

An estimated 286,572 Utah residents live under the national poverty line, and even more suffer from hunger and food insecurity.
Many of our neighbors don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Every one of us could end up in the same situation. Some of life’s devastating blows are enough to leave us out on the street.
It can be a financial, physical, mental health problem, or anything beyond what we can handle to leave us on streets. And we can be left trying to drown out our pain and sorrows right along those we turn away from on a daily basis!
