Upward Motion Men’s Recovery Program

The main focus of the Upward Motion Program is transformation through Biblically based principles. Upward Motion is a God focused recovery program designed to help those in the program to develop better life skills and habits that will help them succeed in life outside the Mission.

This program consists of three phases.  Before entering the program, the applicant will need to go through the Intake Interview with the Program Director and or Chaplin.  Once the applicant passes the Intake Interview, they will be asked to participate in the service portion of the program.  This consists of working alongside the other program members while handing out food or clothing as well as doing chores such as cleaning specific areas of the Mission. If the applicant fits well in the program with others, then they will be fully accepted into the program.

The three phases of the program consist of Phase One (Discipleship/Apprenticeship 101/The Chisel), Phase Two (Mentorship/Polishing), and Phase Three (Presentation).  Each phase lasts for eight months with a Discernment period between each phase. Each phase has a specific focus that will build upon the prior phase as the applicant moves forward and Upward.

Phase One (Discipleship/Apprenticeship 101/The Chisel) is focused on helping the individual start to develop new habits, life skills, communication skills, team work and most of all a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Phase Two (Mentorship/Polishing) builds onto phase one by adding a leadership component. Each individual in the program will receive the opportunity to become a leader in some way or another. This all depends on personal growth and strengths of that person. It is very likely that each person will learn new skills when it comes to working with a group and working to serve the public. This phase also has a focus of learning about how to create a budget, resume and apply for jobs.

Phase Three (Presentation) also builds on the two previous phases by continuing to have a personal relationship with God, and our Lord Jesus Christ as our strength in hard times. This phase will encourage each individual to start preparing for a step back into society apart from the Mission. This phase by no means encourages the individual to leave the program until they truly feel prepared to succeed without the Mission. This phase will focus on finding a church to attend and a good support system around them, as well as getting a job that can support them and the proper housing/ cost of living.

As you can see, recovery does not happen overnight. This program is designed to prepare the individual for a new and successful life ahead.
