Holiday Season Preparations Are Underway!

Once again, October begins harvest season here at Salt Lake City Mission and marks the beginning of our community wide holiday food donation campaign.

With the holiday season approaching quickly, we are preparing now for the busiest time of year that is just ahead for the Mission. We will see our greatest influx of those less fortunate. We need to collect the large amount of food needed to provide multi thousands of meals to the hungry, homeless, and food insecure families right here in Utah.

We need your help now to get ready. Our resources and food on hand need to get fully stocked. We had a really rough summer financially due to what we call the “Summer Slump”.  It’s a time of year when all charities suffer lack of donations due to many planning summer vacations, family outings, and such. So we are coming into the Fall season on the low end. We helped so many people during the summer! Our food pantry and storage units are really getting empty. We can attest that poverty did not take a vacation.

Our urgent “Call to Action” is straight forward as we are asking for the Community to join with us by donating food items or providing much needed financial support for the items we need to fill up our pantry and food storage areas as quickly as possible. You can also have some fun by hosting a food drive in your community or work place. This will also help Salt Lake City Mission keep the cost low when providing a nutrisous meal or food box through our ongoing daily programs and up and coming special holiday events.

IT IS MORE THAN A MEAL!

Financial donations help us greatly because we can often get discounts from the business community and receive more “bang for the buck”. And as always, when we provide a meal to someone it often becomes “more than a meal”.

Your contribution to provide meals this holiday season can turn a time of need into a time of hope realized! When we provide a meal for someone hungry, homeless, or a food box to a family trying to make ends meet – we also offer other resources and services to help them through their situations of despair and struggle and onto a more enjoyable life expeience.

Will you join us in stocking our pantry and storage areas to help us meet the massive need over the holiday season ahead?

We are preparing early because we expect this to be our busiest holiday yet. And we need your help to make sure we’ll have enough food for each person who comes to our special events – and through our doors in need of food as we also continue our ongoing daily assistance to those less fortunate.

As we continue our ongoing daily services, we will also prepare for our special holiday outreaches. Thanksgiving Day we will be hosting a joy filled festive day and holiday meal for the homeless and those who have nowhere else to go. Days before we will also be inviting low income families to pick up special holiday food boxes with all the items to prepare a special Thanksgiving meal at home. We will do the same at Christmas time.

With all the festive reminders seemlessly everywhere during the holidays, those who have less feel even more depressed – and lonely. Our aim is to change all that by being there for each and every one who walks through our doors and embracing them with God’s love and provision in such a way that each one lights up knowing someone truly cares.

However you are able to contribute, be assured our great God will bless you for caring for the less fortunate among us. “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor” – Proverbs 22:9.

Thank you so much [First Name] for giving to help share meals, and “hope realized” this holiday season! You are a blessing, and we pray that God blesses you more than ever!

May God’s favor be upon you in every way imaginable.

We need your help today to help stock our shelves and food storage areas as we prepare for the most important time of year just ahead.
