Why Donate A Vehicle?

Thank you for your interest in donating your used vehicle to Salt Lake City Mission. It’s a simple way to save the hassle of selling a used car. And you’ll receive a great tax break while helping people who are experiencing homelessness and poverty.

We comply with IRS rules and regulations governing vehicle donations made to nonprofit organizations.

The Value Of Donating Property

Donating real estate is a great way to help Salt Lake City Mission serve the community. If you own property and would like to make a charitable gift, please contact us today. Someone who donates real estate that has been held for more than one year is generally entitled to an income tax deduction equal to the full, fair market value of the donated property. In most cases, the donor can avoid the capital gain tax on the appreciated portion of the property that would have been taxable if the property was sold. Estate tax savings as well as avoiding probate are other possible benefits.

Other benefits may include:

  • Avoid or diminish capital gains tax
  • Receive a charitable tax deduction
  • Eliminate selling problems
  • Simple to transfer ownership
  • No real estate broker fees
  • Possible income through annuity
  • And of course help provide for the poor in donating your property to Salt Lake City Mission – A front line service provider.

Donating Stocks and Mutual Funds

Donating stocks or mutual funds directly to Salt Lake City Mission can provide 50% more funds than simply selling your shares and contributing the proceeds. There’s no better way to put the full value of your stocks and mutual funds to work to provide safe shelter, nourishing meals, and Christ-centered programs to help end the cycle of homelessness.

Why Donate Unused Inventory?

Getting rid of your excess or obsolete inventory can help you free up needed warehouse space, avoid hefty storage fees, focus on the products that do sell and avoid having to liquidate items. You may be able to donate some inventory to charities in order to receive a valuable tax deduction if your donation meets certain requirements…

The advantages of making “gifts-in-kind” donations.

Donating your unwanted merchandise can allow a company to accomplish good works while reaping tax benefits. Under IRC Section 170 (e)(3), C Corps that donate their unused inventory to qualifying nonprofits can receive deductions equal to the cost of the inventory donated, plus half the difference between the cost and fair market selling price (not to exceed twice the cost).

Translation: An item that costs $10 to make and retails for $30 could earn your company a tax deduction of up to $20.

With all that going for it, it’s hard to say why making gifts-in-kind donations isn’t a more popular strategy. Perhaps business owners assume it’s a cumbersome process. The reality is, it isn’t difficult at all to make it a regular part of your business work process.
