FOX13 And Salt Lake City Mission To Host A “Harvest For The Hungry” Food Donation Drive And Raffle Giveaway This Month
On November 15 and 17 from 11am to 6pm Salt Lake City Mission along with FOX13, who will be on location at the Mission’s office, will be collecting donations to feed the homeless and hungry, and provide food boxes to families in need this Thanksgiving season.
The community is being invited to participate in this very worthy cause by dropping off food donations to help Salt Lake City Mission prepare for the thousands of meals it will give away to those in need over the next several weeks and at this year’s Thanksgiving dinner the Mission will be hosting on November 24th. Salt Lake City Mission is also being invited to participate at this year’s Larry H and Gail Miller Family Foundation meal on November 21st.
Those dropping off food donations will be eligible to win one of many prizes in a raffle giveaway which include a stay with breakfast at the Hilton, stays at the Hyatt Place and Plaza Hotel, dinner for two at the Texas Roadhouse, and free entrée and desserts at Cracker Barrel.
“Our ‘Call to Action’ is asking for our Donors and the community to donate or collect the items we need to fill up our pantry and food storage areas.
“With the holiday season already here, we are still in great need of the large amount of food required to feed so many who will come for help. If everything goes as it has in the previous years, we can expect to provide over 85,000 meals this holiday which also includes the Christmas Season. All of our efforts to feed and assist the hungry, homeless, and less fortunate goes to provide for those in need right here in Utah.
“I would also like to let people know that It is ‘more than just a meal’ As we feed someone desperately in need of food, we also offer to assist meeting additional needs of those finding life very difficult. It is hard for those who live on a path of frustration and struggle day after day. So many feel like no one else cares, especially the homeless who are often left to their own defenses. But we meet people right where they’re at and many times food is the first thing they need. Once we gain their trust in friendship and show them someone does care, we can then work on helping them recover from their situations to live a more positive life.”, says Pastor Shawn Clay, Director of Salt Lake City Mission.
