Mardi-Bra Dive for Hygiene Products and
Undergarments for Women and Teens
Women and children represent the fastest growing group of the homeless population nationwide. More than 40 million women in the United States are living in poverty or on the brink of it. In Utah, that number includes more than 100,000 women.
Women who are homeless suffer many indignities. One of them is being without personal care products that are needed on a monthly basis. Put yourself in their place. How would you feel? What would you do?
More often than not, personal hygiene products are not readily available to women. Most of us do not realize the tremendous need for feminine hygiene products at our local nonprofit care providers. Nonprofits also rarely include these costs in their budgets.
To make matters worse, government assistance programs don’t even cover the costs of feminine hygiene products where purchasing these products alone can cost women close to $100 dollars a year. To women living in homelessness, trying to access essential care items, usually without money is yet another burden on an already stretched budget.
Salt Lake City Mission, in collaboration with Rock and Wrap It Up!, an award-winning anti-poverty think tank, is hosting Mardi Bra. Mardi Bra is an initiative to collect and provide feminine hygiene products for women and teens who do not have easy access to these products.
The needs are real! Help us collect feminine hygiene products throughout the months of January, February, and March through drives or individual product purchases or financial donations. With your support, we will be able to provide thousands of local women with the comfort of knowing that they do not have to face the embarrassment of not being prepared with items you and I take for granted!
